Robert T Schmidt

June 19th, 1931 to April 2nd, 2022
Obituary

Robert Theodore Schmidt, 90, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 2, 2022. He was affectionately known by his friends and family as “Bob with one O.”

He was born June 19, 1931 in Detroit to the late Theodore and Nora Schmidt. He married his Italian sweetheart, Rose Marie Pingitore, on August 21, 1954.

Robert was a proud and brilliant mechanical engineer. He ran his own engineering firm for many years then worked for General Electric before retiring in 1991. An entrepreneur at heart, he held six patents and a copyright and was always enthusiastic in discovering how things worked. He was a long-time active member of Griswold Street Baptist Church and the St. Clair County Gideons and faithfully loved the Lord throughout his life. He was an avid Tigers fan. Bob and Rose spent much of their retirement traveling the world together.

More than anything, Bob loved being together with his family. He always had a ready joke or story and a healthy spoonful of orange blossom honey for his coffee. He was known for starting the day with a loud, “Rise and shine! Another day in which to excel,” and would frequently pause to observe “now this is livin’!”

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose; son, Eric (Jayne) Schmidt; daughter, Lisa (Mickey) Weston; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Karina) Schmidt, Cory (Jayne) Schmidt, Karyn (Brent) Veerman, Erica (Rob) Harrigan, Kayla (Bryan) Aanderud, Drew (Amy) Weston and Marissa Weston; and eight great grandchildren, Lukas, Ian, Ella, Sam, Eli, Maverick, Isaiah and Ben. He was preceded in death by his son, Karl Schmidt; and brother, Bruce Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
