H. Jean Townsend

Helen “Jean” Townsend, 97, of Fort Gratiot, died July 26, 2022 in Marwood Manor.

She was born April 13, 1925 in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada to the late Archibald and Ellen MacLean. She married Guy A. Townsend on September 3, 1949 in Detroit and he preceded her in death on January 16, 2014 after 64 years of marriage.

After graduating from Western University in Ontario, Jean went to work for Henry Ford Health System as a medical technologist. She took a break from her career to raise her children, but returned after they were grown and remained with Henry Ford until her retirement. She was a talented artist, that especially enjoyed fiber arts and ceramics. She also loved square dancing, playing bridge, golfing and travelling with her husband, Guy.

She is survived by two children, Dr. Leslie Louise Townsend and Scott E. (Margaret) Townsend; a granddaughter, Jahan Khazaeli; a grandson, Kian Khazaeli; and a great granddaughter, Rowan Khazaeli. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tavon.

A committal service will be held at noon on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Lakeside Cemetery Chapel. Pastor Roxie Davis will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Allied Veterans Columbarium, Port Huron.

Memorials may be made to the Art Therapy Program at Marwood Manor.
