Obituary

William Howard “Bill” Pemberton, 90, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022.

He was born on August 7, 1931 in Port Huron to the late Mabel and Jack Pemberton.

Bill graduated from Port Huron High School in June 1950. After attending Port Huron Junior College, he enrolled in Western Kentucky State College in Bowling Green, Kentucky for 3 ½ years. He was an honor student and received a Letter in Debate.

He was employed at the U.S. Postal Service in Flint, Michigan for almost 30 years. Upon his retirement in 1992 he moved to Buelah, Michigan with his long-time friends, Lucille and Donald “Jay” Brandt. He loved northern Michigan and he called it “God’s Country”, loving the cold and snowy winters. He enjoyed shoveling snow, gardening and was an avid reader.

Although his official title was Uncle Bill, his “Official Role” was father to Steve (Julie); grandfather to Stephen (Amber), Joseph, Jeffrey (Jolene) and his name sake Billy Pemberton; and great grandfather to six.

Bill is survived by his long-time companion, Dorothy Palmateer; sisters, Barbara Post and Betty King; brother, Dan (Diane) Beedon; sister-in-law, Janet Pemberton; special friends, Sang & Eun Han; and many neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eva Hofeling, Evelyn Pemberton, Maggie Pemberton and Nancy Jackson; brothers, John Pemberton, Theodore Pemberton and Frank Pemberton.

Bill served honorably as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Sturges Memorial Congreational Church in Port Huron. His church family was very dear to him.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Sturges Memorial Congregational Church with the Reverend Dr. G. Patrick Thompson officiating. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township.

Bill’s family prefers memorial contributions be made to Sturges Memorial Congregational Church.
