Karen M "Kat" Shannon
Karen Marie Shannon, 72, of Burtchville Township, died Monday, August 8, 2022.
She was born November 23, 1949 in Denison, Texas and spent most of her childhood in Texas, but completed Kindergarten in England while her parents were stationed there with the military. They returned to El Paso and she graduated from Burgess High School in 1968. Kat was a free spirit who loved traveling the world. She backpacked across Europe in the 1960’s then hitchhiked throughout the United States and lived in a teepee in New Mexico in the 1970s. Settling in California to start a family, she owned and operated two successful restaurants. Kat moved to Michigan in 1984 and worked as an engineering assistant with United Technologies. During this time, she also started her psychic business, Kat’s Korner. She touched and guided many lives with her tarot, rune and palm readings, and has clients all over the world. Kat was adored by all and had a great sense of humor. She loved to make people laugh and will be remembered for the “laughing rituals” she taught. She also enjoyed camping, drumming and howling at the moon.
She is survived by two children, Dandylyon (Kevin) Darr and Everett Shannon; sister, Shelley (Jim) Streck; nieces, Heidi (Daniel) Chowen and Gretchen Streck; great nieces, Adwyn and Jolie Chowen; and her cats, Toker and Betty. She was preceded in death by her stillborn oldest daughter, Chantilly Lace; mother, Ruth Walker Elgie; father, J. Sterling P. Gaffield; and brother, Sterling Gaffield.
A memorial open house will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Fort Gratiot County Park - South Pavillion.
Kat’s family requested that her cremated remains be solidified so that she will be, in their words, “forever stoned”.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
