Obituary

Garrett Wilson “Tex” Baker, 86, of Kimball Township, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

He was born May 22, 1936 in Port Huron to the late Edward and Elsie Baker. He married Mary Lou Roehl on February 24, 1962 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Port Huron.

Tex served in the U.S. Army. After his return from the service, he worked for Almont Welding and then Hess Fabrication. After his formal retirement, Tex worked harder than ever in his garage building things and tinkering. He was a wealth of knowledge, full of wonderful advice and never met a problem he couldn’t solve. Tex was a lifetime antique car owner and enthusiast, and enjoyed deer hunting and camping. He and Mary Lou enjoyed traveling to 49 states in motorhomes that he custom designed and built.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou; brother, Gilford Baker; many nieces and nephews, including special ones, Jill Barr, Aaron (Linda) Baker and Owen (Mary) Baker; many great nieces and nephews; and a great great nephew, August “Auggie” Baker. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

Memorial visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Opfermann of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Yale VA Clinic or the American Cancer Society.
