Gordon Pabst Hayes

Gordon Pabst Hayes, 97, of Fort Gratiot, died on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

He was born July 25, 1925 in Carsonville, to the late Roy & Grace Hayes. He married Irene Peters on November 26, 1948 in Port Huron.

Gordon lived a full, active life and enjoyed snowmobiling and four-wheeling in Northern Michigan well into his 80s with his friends and family. Gordon also served his country as a Merchant Marine and in the U.S. Army during World War II. Gordon worked at Twin Pines Dairy in Hazel Park and London’s Farm Dairy in Port Huron and went on to start his own siding business. He was a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather (lovingly nicknamed as “Papa”, “Pops” and “Grandpa”), and great-grandfather who kept everyone on their toes with his quick-witted humor.

He is survived by his two children, Michael Hayes and Kathryn Hayes; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Warwick, Andrew James, Amy (Dale) Bywater, Marcie (Marty) Smith, Marissa (Charles) Aydlett, Michael (Danielle) Hayes, and Johnny (Carlia) Hayes; great-grandchildren, Megan, Andy, Robyn, Wyatt, Kayli, Nathan, Emily, Hunter, Harlow, Lincoln, and Winston; sister, Janet Kasdorf; brother, Ronald Hayes; and many nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Irene Hayes; and six siblings.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard. A luncheon will follow at the Port Huron Host Lions Club.

Gordon’s ashes will be laid to rest next to his wife, Irene, in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township at a later date.
