Obituary

Sandra L. Kota, 85, of Marysville died Wednesday, November 23, 2022.

She was born August 16, 1937 in Muskegon to the late Harvey and Marguerite Baldwin. She married her high school sweetheart, Alexander S. Kota, on December 14, 1957 in Muskegon. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2020 after 62 years of marriage.

Mrs. Kota is remembered as the epitome of a loving homemaker. Beyond her own children and grandchildren, so many knew her as “Ma Kota” or “Grandma Kota.” She was an incredible cook and baker, who enjoyed both trying new recipes and mastering family favorites. She loved to knit, sew and crochet, making countless items for those she loved over her years. Her treats in the kitchen and homemade gifts were truly a labor of love. Her recipes and these gifts will keep her loving legacy alive with those she cared for and for those who loved her so.

She is survived by four children, Stephanie (William) Trout, Andrea (Peter) Biondo, Kathleen Kota, and Alexander “Chip” Kota; three grandchildren, Kaitlin (Jason) Gray, Zachary (DeAmber) Trout and Karissa Kaufman; two great grandchildren, Averi Alex Gray and Jason Robert Gray, Jr.; four step-grandchildren, Tracie (Scott) Turner, Sarah Horan, Nick (Heather) Biondo, and Kathleen (Matt) Wade; 16 step great grandchildren, Braden, Addison, and Brock Turner, Cole, Reagan and Piper Horan, Brooks, Adrian, Dylan, and Tristan Biondo, Campbell, Teagan, Mila and Henley Wade and Braeden and Sydney Gray; three sisters, Michele (Harold) Graves, Melody (Dale) Dewey and Jacquie Swensen; brother, William (Sheila) Baldwin; sister-in-law, M. Suzanne Brisbois; and many other loved ones. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Brown; brother Robert (Laura) Baldwin; brothers-in-law, Maynard Kota, Clayton Brisbois and David Swensen; and other special family members.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Tom Seppo will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery.
