Garry Duane Archer, 86, of Marysville, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on November 30, 2022 surrounded by his family.
He was born August 1, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan to Walker and Helen (McCallum) Archer.
Garry graduated from Port Huron High School in 1954, Port Huron Junior College in 1956 and Wheaton College in 1958 where he had the privilege of meeting the Reverend Billy Graham. Garry obtained his MA in Education from Eastern Michigan University and taught elementary students in East China Schools for 34 years. While substituting one day at Washington Junior High in Port Huron he met his future wife, Mary Lou Russel. They were married on August 1, 1959, at Court Street Baptist Church.
After accepting Jesus at an early age, Garry remained active in his church throughout his life, teaching, serving on various boards, and volunteering in Christian schools and ministries. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, basketball, golf, being outdoors, cutting and splitting wood. Later Garry and Mary Lou enjoyed travelling the country in their camper. He loved, followed, and encouraged his children and grandchildren to live in the faith and enjoyed all their athletic and other activities.
Garry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou; three children, Cathy, Doug (Nan), and Eric, and “foster” family, Grace Belen and Jasper; five grandchildren, Craig (Kelly), Michelle (Josiah), Kevin (Jennifer), Mark and Brayden; seven great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Walker (Mary Grace).
Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Ross Bible Church. Pastor Steve Scott will officiate.
Burial will be in Elk Township Cemetery, Peck.
