Orville B Collins
Orville Bert Collins, 96, of Port Huron, died Monday, December 12, 2022.
He was born June 5, 1926 in Baraboo, Wisconsin to the late Bert and Louise Collins. He married Margaret S. Stauffer in 1949. She died May 4, 1987 after 38 years of marriage. Orville married Margaret R. Havens on July 27, 1989 in Janesville, Wisconsin. She died January 3, 2018.
Orville graduated from Baraboo High School in 1945. He and 17 classmates were drafted for military service in WWII and he was the last veteran from his class. After boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Base and medical training in Farragut, Idaho, he served as a Hospital Corpsman at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia until the end of the War.
Orville graduated from Anderson College in Indiana. He then served 34 years as a Professional Scout Executive with Councils in Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin. Orv was an 80-year member of the Boy Scouts of America, a Silver Beaver, James West Fellow, and traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico several times. He was also a member of Lions International for 75 years, a Melvin Jones and Kenneth E. Lautzenheiser Fellow. Orv fulfilled his promises to “Be Prepared” and “We Serve”. He was a long-time member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Collins is survived by two sons, Larry (Beatrice) Collins, and Bradley (Sheryl) Collins; daughter-in-law Debbie Collins, five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Collins and Dean Collins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Randy.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, 912 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in First Church of the Nazarene, 1923 Garfield St., Port Huron. The Reverend Josh Woods will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Beloit, Wisconsin.
