Kenneth L Matthews
Kenneth Lloyd Matthews, 93, formerly of Marysville, died November 30, 2022 after a long illness.
He was born December 25, 1928 in Port Huron, the son of the late Roy W. Matthews and Irene M. Warner.
Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Navy near the end of WWII and served on the USS Hugh Purvis- a Sumner-class destroyer. While in the Navy, Ken met the “love of his life” Molly Conforti of the Bronx, NY. Ken and Molly were married on May 8, 1948 in Livonia, MI (Ken’s brother, Bill and Molly’s sister, Gloria were best man and maid of honor at their wedding.) Ken was employed at Prestolite Wire Corporation at 3529 24th Street in Port Huron, MI after leaving the Navy and later became a shift supervisor until his retirement in the early 80’s. Ken, Molly and their son, Steven lived in Lexington Heights, MI before having a house built and relocating to Marysville, MI in 1965. Ken was an avid golfer, maintaining a membership at the Marysville Golf Course for many years, often being the first on the course. Ken loved helping and supporting his family and was always willing to strap on a tool belt or get his hands dirty on home improvement projects, renovations, construction or landscaping. He loved time in the yard and working in his pole barn. Kenneth and Molly relocated from Marysville to Columbus, OH in 2020 to live with their niece, Lisa and her husband Tim for help and support.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Molly; sisters-in-law, Gloria Matthews, Delores (Tiki) Masiello and Marie Florie; two nieces, Anna (Terry) Addley and Lisa (Timothy) Raines; and a nephew Daniel (Linda) Matthews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilfred “Bill” and Richard; a stillborn son, and son, Kenneth Jr.; and son, Steven.
