Richard Duane Miller
Richard Duane Miller, 78, of Port Huron, went to his eternal rest with his Savior and Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
He was born April 12, 1933 in Pontiac to the late Hugh and Pauline Miller. He married Martha “Marcy” Beer on October 17, 1987 in Port Huron.
Richard taught for 30 years in the Port Huron Area School District and coached a number of sports, retiring from Port Huron Northern in 1986. He worked for Party Time Ice for 27 years, in the summers while teaching and full time after his retirement.
Richard graduated from Port Huron High in 1951. He was an ordained Methodist minister, held master’s degrees in social studies and psychology and had an education specialist degree in guidance counseling. He was a member of the Gideons, a Boy Scout leader for many years, and an avid bowler in the Big 12 League, serving as its secretary for 20 years.
Since 2001, Richard was Sunday morning chaplain at the Blue Water Lodge in Fort Gratiot. He was a devout Christian man and leaves a legacy of strong faith to his family.
He is survived by his dear wife, Martha “Marcy,” who truly was the love and breath of his life; his children, Brian (Lisa) Miller, Marie (Bishop Ronald) Jacobs, Scott Miller and fiancée Erica, and Jordan (Dayel) Crawford; and six grandchildren, Miranda, Benjamin, Jeffrey, Hannah, Heather and Jacob; and many friends at Riverside Tabernacle, New Covenant Church of God, Port Huron Big Boy and Heartland Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m.
