John E "Butch" Schef, Jr.

John Edward “Butch” Schef Jr., 70, of Port Huron, died Friday, December 30, 2022.

He was born February 8, 1952 in Port Huron to Betty and the late John E. Schef.

John was employed in manufacturing and also worked at the Meijer store in Fort Gratiot for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching Tiger baseball and Lions football. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife Terri; children, Steven (Katie) Schef, Edward DeWitt, Justin, Stephen and Daniel Rutherford; grandson, Caden Schef; many step-grandchildren; mother, Betty Jean Schef; siblings, Sally Schef, Thomas (Linda) Schef, Peggy VanOstran, Mary Herr and Daniel (Nora) Schef; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Craig Schef.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in Westminster Church, 2501 Stone St., Port Huron with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
