Dorothy M Winn
Dorothy Mae (Heinrich) Winn, 88, of Columbus Twp., passed away at home on Friday, January 13, 2023.
She was born May 9, 1934 in Detroit to Joseph and Milly Heinrich-Lawrence-Lohr. She graduated from Memphis Community Schools in 1952 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Wayne State University in 1959. Dorothy was a member and longtime pianist, organist and Sunday School teacher at Columbus Baptist Church, taught Good News Club, served on the local Child Evangelism Fellowship board, and was an active member of the St. Clair County Gideons Auxiliary and Farm Bureau. Dorothy was a studier of God’s Word and read through the Bible many times over the years. She traveled multiple times to the land of Israel, taking many of her family with her. Dorothy married Charles F. Winn on September 6, 1958. She was a faithful wife, homemaker and farm helper to her husband for 60 years. He preceded her in death in 2018. They reared, taught, sang, and prayed for their five children on the family farm. Charles and Dorothy also opened their hearts and home to many individuals over the years.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Karyn (Rod) McCue, Rachel (Dan) McCue of Columbus, Ellyn (Ben) Davey of North Street, Joseph (Angela) Winn of Fort Gratiot and Sarah (Paul) Jones of Columbus; 19 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; sister, Sonja (Wayne) Tucker; step-sister Emilie Evans, brothers-in-law H. Thomas (Cynthia) and Glenn (Tina) Winn; sister-in-law Julia Winn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by Brandon VanCamp and the many other young men and women whom she faithfully provided daily meals for who worked for “the Winns” on their farm over the years. A special thanks to grandchildren Kadie and Chris Freeman, who lived with and faithfully cared for Dorothy during her decline. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and great-granddaughter, Briar Freeman.
Visitation will be held Thursday Jan. 19 from 2-8 p.m. at the Marysville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Columbus Baptist Church, 1258 Palms Rd. on Friday, Jan. 20, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Chris Freeman will officiate.
A private burial will be at Kittridge Cemetery, Columbus Township. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Memorials may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship-Blue Water Chapter and the Gideons International.
