Barry L Sutherland

July 7th, 1954 to January 22nd, 2023

On Sunday January 22, 2023 at the age of 68, Barry Sutherland rang the bell after a long 4-year battle with cancer. It may not look like we wanted, but he was able to ring it when he arrived in heaven. He peacefully left his cancer filled body at 8:25 p.m., surrounded by his family while in his own bed.

He was born July 7, 1954 in Mt. Clemens to the late William and Ceinwyn Sutherland. He married Cristina L. Kinsey on August 8, 2009 in Fort Gratiot.

Barry received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Admin. Production and Inventory Control from Kettering University in 1977 and his MBA in International Business from Regis University in 2003. In his early career years, he held management positions in the automotive industry including Volkswagen of America, Rockwell International, and New Venture Gear. He later transitioned to own North Coast Industrial Imaging. He finished his working career as a business broker with Gottesman Company.

He loved the ocean and deeply enjoyed Myrtle Beach. He was an avid reader, passionate about baseball/softball, and was involved in sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he came in contact with.

Barry was on the Blue Water Church Softball League board as a secretary and helped coach a team with William Forbes for many years. It was a good way for him to combine his love of softball and Jesus.

He is survived by his wife, Cristina; daughters, Amiee (Andrew) Ogden, Emily (Zachary) Mellits, Arija (Zachary) Burtch and Emily Choranziak (Saul Gonzalez); grandchildren, Jamie, Fiona, Carter, Elliana and Paisley; brothers, Jeff Sutherland and Al (Denise) Sutherland; and loving canine companion, Hank. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Sutherland.

A memorial event to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Pine Grove Park Ball Diamonds.

Memorial contributions may be made to Even the Sparrow.
