William S Philp

William Samuel Philp, 96, of Burtchville Township, died Monday, January 23, 2023.

He was born March 2, 1926 in Port Huron to the late William R. and Lenore Philp. He married Patricia Brown on June 24, 1950 in Port Huron. She died January 12, 2019.

William taught at Marysville High School for many years and had a particular passion for encouraging students entering career and technical education. During the summers, he built numerous houses for family and friends. Bill was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, B.P.O.E. Lodge #343 and life member of Port Huron Lodge #58 F. & A.M. He was a golf pro at Marysville Golf Course for many years and golf coach for Marysville High School. Bill’s greatest love was his wife and family. He enjoyed woodworking, singing, and traveling and camping with Pat.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas (Amy) Philp of Marysville and James (Amy) Philp of Adrian; five grandchildren, Thomas, Samuel, Patrick and Andrew Philp and Sara (Andrew) Bailey; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Olivia and Caleb Bailey; sister, Val Mason; sisters-in-law, Arlene Philp, Erma Brown and Karren Francesconi; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mike and Donna Roemer.

He was preceded in death by three siblings, Janet VanBuskirk, David Philp and Edith Mansfield.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2023 in St. John’s United Church of Christ. Dr. Richard E. Hotchkin will officiate.
