Ruby Lee Crittenden, 74, of Port Huron, was called to eternal rest on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
She was born November 26, 1948 in Texarkana, Arkansas to the late Benjamin and Ruby Grant. She married The Reverend Alex Crittenden on December 22, 1969 in Texarkana, Arkansas. He died March 28, 2022.
Ruby attended school in the state of Arkansas, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School and was valedictorian. After high school she received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas AM&N and her master’s degree from Wayne State University. She was a school teacher with the Port Huron Area School District for many years prior to her retirement and member of the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association. She and her husband, Alex were co-founders of a Couples Christian Ministry which began in 2002. She was a devoted pastor’s wife and First Lady at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of Woman’s Life Chapter #837.
She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Gayle (Derrick) James; son, Kevin; loving granddaughter, Amaya; goddaughter, Haran Stanley; adopted granddaughter, Makayla Stanley; godsons, Morris Hall Jr. and Dr. Antwan Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ben Henry Grant Jr., Alsenior Davis, Delois Bratton, Tavis Grant, Harvey Grant, Ethel Davis, Correnthia Harris and Dennis Grant.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in Restoration Christian Community Church, 3201 Gratiot Avenue, Port Huron, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Carl E. Miller Sr. and the Reverend George Washington will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
