Rose Biessel, 84, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in her home.

She was born November 11, 1938 in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, the middle child of the late George and Mary Ellen “Nell” Moran. She was raised on the Moran Family farm in Port Lambton, Ontario along with her eight brothers and sisters. She felt blessed to be a part of a big, wonderful Irish clan and enjoyed a great childhood. She married Frank A. Biessel on August 23, 1974 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2010.

She worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sarnia for 35 years, retiring from the Neo-natal Intensive Care unit after many years of running the Emergency ward. Rose was a long-time advisor to the Child Abuse Committee and an active member of the hospital leadership team. When she retired, she took the classes needed to register as a Reflexologist and a Pastoral Care worker to minister to those in hospice and their grieving families. Rose was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Huron for 49 years. She volunteered as a Parish Nurse, Deacon and funeral lunch lady. Over the years, Rose and Frank took several mission trips to Haiti with their church.

Rose loved to volunteer whenever needed, golf and travel. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a place to rest and there was always an extra place for anyone at the dinner table. Frank and Rose loved their pets. They had many dogs and cats.

She is survived by five children, Ken (Charlene) Biessel, Patti (Larry) Dupuis, Wayne (Sandy) Biessel, Cheryl (Matt) Pohlman and Donna Hazlewood; twelve grandchildren, Zachary (Nicole) Biessel, Jay (Aubrey) Biessel, Cydney (Ryan) Busey, April (Nate) Heier, Angie (Casey) Holycross, Chas Armstrong (Raisa), Shawn Biessel (Rachel), Wyatt (Mina) Biessel, Birch Biessel, Rowan Biessel, Kaleigh (Marco) Blise and Mackenzie Pohlman; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann McLaughlin and Judy Moran; and faithful dog companions, Sadie and Daisy.
