George Mair
George Mair, 94, of Fort Gratiot, Michigan died peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2023, on what would have been his wife’s 90th birthday.
He was born December 12, 1928 in Montreal, Quebec to Georgina Robinson. He was adopted in February 1929 by Phyllis and George Mair.
George was married to his beautiful wife, Norma Mary (McKenna) for 64 and a half years. The two of them spent their life traveling the world. George always said, “Travel while you’re young”. He worked hard his entire life starting at a mere 14 years old for the Canadian Railway as a courier. After George and his wife immigrated to the U.S., he obtained a job at Ford Motor Company, where he worked as a Tool & Die Maker for 30 years before retiring.
He enjoyed boating, gardening, fishing, entertaining friends, being outdoors and sunbathing. He was an avid lover of dogs and feeding the birds and wildlife. When he lived in Croswell, he fed the raccoons and their babies daily. When he was in Florida, he fed the herons. He was a jack of all trades who could fix anything and an excellent craftsman who built four spectacular homes. What George enjoyed the very most was his four beautiful granddaughters and nine great grandchildren. He would play board games and card games for hours. He was a long-time member of both the Port Huron Moose Lodge #158 and the Blue Water Aerie #3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles, as well as the Croswell Lions Club. He was always regarded for his radio voice and bear claw hands and often mistaken for Arnold Palmer in his younger years. George was pretty famous on social media and was loved by many people who had never even met him. He will be sorely missed!
He is survived by his grandchildren, Jody (Troy) Kendall, Mackenzie (Sean) Romero and Meghan Mair; and great grandchildren, Avery, Jayden, Gracelynn, Isabella, Neveah, Giovanni, Valentino, Zane and Jaeden. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma; his son, Gary; and granddaughter, Jessica Hanna.
A memorial event to celebrate George’s life will be held at a later date.
He will be laid to eternal rest at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Clinton Township, Michigan.
