Simo “Sim” Pynnonen

Simo “Sim” Pynnonen, 93, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012.

He was born April 3, 1918 in Grayling to the late Jonas and Aino Pynnonen. He married Beatrice Pritchard on June 18, 1949 in Grand Rapids. She died May 6, 2005.

Mr. Pynnonen was County Extension Director for the MSU Cooperative Extension in St. Clair County. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University. He was a member of both First Presbyterian Church and Port Huron Lodge #58 F. & A.M. for over 50 years. Sim was an avid hunter and enjoyed going up north.

He is survived by a daughter, Emily Pynnonen of Port Huron; a son, David Pynnonen and Diane Giacobassi of Glendale, Wisconsin; a granddaughter, Sara (R.J.) Volosky of Fort Gratiot; a son-in-law, Shawn Corbett; his siblings, Donald Pynnonen of Bloomfield Hills, Irene (Jim) Chamblee of East Lansing and Ole (Betty) Pynnonen of Aspen, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Pynnonen of Petoskey; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in First Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Reverend Jason Pitman will officiate.
