Willie Maudie "Marti" Hale
Willie Maudie Hale affectionately called “Marti”, 80, of Port Huron, departed her life peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
She was born August 18, 1942 in Hartwell, Georgia. She came to Port Huron, Michigan at the age of 4 years old and resided there most of her life.
Marti was known for having a stern voice. She said what she meant and meant what she said. She was a very talkative person who could talk on the phone for hours. Marti had a witty sense of humor and loved beautiful things. She was a devoted homemaker, who loved to sew, cook, build doll houses, garden and fish. She loved music, especially Motown including artists Aretha Franklin, Al Green and the Temptations. Marti raised six children on her own and touched many lives over the years by becoming a foster mom. Later she and her husband opened up a day care called, Marti’s Day Care.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 38 years, Victor; six children, Andre’ Rogan, Kim (Prez) Rogan-Dixon, VaLorie Rogan, Marty Kay (Benasea) Rogan-Johnson, Dionne Rogan and Robert Earl Greer Jr.; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, David Gunter; six sisters-in-law, Anne Harper, Christine Gunter, Lillie Belle Gunter, Linda Gunter and Tina Hale; brother-in-law, Quintin (Marilyn) Hale; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and her companion dog, Pierre. She was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Alice Curry; sister, Rosemary Collier; five brothers, Thomas Harper, Alfred Gunter, Elijah Gunter, Booker T. “Sonny” Gunter and Danny Gunter; and a grandson, DeShaun Rogan-Gibson.
Private services have been held.
Inurnment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron.
