Gerald Junior Schember, 90, of Wales Township, died Friday, April 21, 2023.
He was born June 2, 1932 in Elkton to the late Alfred A. and Lydia Schember and grew up on the family farm. Jerry was a 1950 graduate of Elkton High School and then attended Bethel College. He married Jane Louise Cook on December 28, 1963 in Yale.
Jerry worked as a machine operator with Mueller Brass for over 31 years until his retirement in 1998. In 2004, he began to volunteer at McLaren Port Huron Hospital where he donated over 8,000 hours of his time. He was a longtime member of Colonial Woods Missionary Church and enjoyed working on the funeral luncheon committee. In his younger years, Jerry enjoyed playing softball.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane; three children, Susan (David) Dusett, Marvin (Barbara) Schember and Karen (Aaron) Smith; eight grandchildren, Jonathan Dusett, Hannah Dusett, Elizabeth Robbins, Trevor Robbins, Kate Schember, Curtis Schember Kirsten Smith and Kyle Smith; two great grandchildren, Destiny and Luke; sister, Alene McCracken; brothers, Edward and Wayne Schember; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn; and brothers, Walter, Clarence, Olin, Kenneth, Earl and Robert.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 in Colonial Woods Missionary Church. The Reverend Brian Ake will officiate.
Burial will be in Elk Township Cemetery, Peck.
