Betty Jean Schef

Betty Jean Schef, 92, of Port Huron, died Monday, May 15, 2023.

She was born June 27, 1930 in Gardendale to the late Ellsworth and Mae Conklin. She married John Edward Schef on November 23, 1950 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2014 after 63 years of marriage.

Through the years, Betty worked at Dairy Queen and St. Clair Metals and also helped at her husband’s business, Frank’s Bait. However, her favorite role was as the matriarch of her large family.

She is survived by five children, Sally Schef, Peggy VanOstran, Thomas (Linda) Schef, Mary Herr and Daniel (Nora) Schef; daughter-in-law, Terri Schef; 17 grandchildren, Steven Schef, Ed DeWitt, Justin, Stephen and Daniel Rutherford, Andrea Wilson, Robert Miller, Angela and Patrick VanOstran, Paul Leaym, Thomas E. Schef, Marcie Mason, Robert Schef, Nikolas Schef, Steven Schef, Leticia Delano and Danielle Schef; many great grandchildren, including Christopher Cayton; sister, June Romero; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons, Craig Schef and John E. Schef Jr.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2023 in Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Reverend Tim Anderson will officiate. Betty’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
