GYSGT Kirk V. Langolf USMC, USMCR, MANG (SFC)

August 7th, 1957 to May 20th, 2023
Obituary

GYSGT Kirk V. Langolf, USMC, USMCR, MANG (SFC), passed from this world to his heavenly home on the 20th of May, which was fittingly Armed Forces Day. He is finally free from the combination of poison water that the marines drank during infantry training while stationed at Camp Lejeune and the effects of an accident at the Hamtramck railroad yard while working for Canadian National Railway. This, plus the diagnosis of CADASIL led to repeated strokes, eventually resulting in dementia and his passing.

GYSGT Langolf is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his mother, Lois Langolf; brother, Brian (Laurie) Langolf; son, Robert (Colleen) DeBoer; grandchildren, Chloe and Caleb; niece, Jessica (Scott) McPhail; nephew, Zach (Erin) Langolf; great nieces, Rowan, Sam and Landen; and aunts, cousins and church family. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Langolf in 2004.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to Barbara Salvatore, who has been Kirk’s Home Health Aide for three years. She loved Kirk and he was her “buddy”. Also, all the VA physicians, specialists, social workers, Sanilac County Veterans office, who provided van transportation and the van driver John, Comfort Keepers (Shannon) and Harmony Hospice (Kayla). Last but not least the prayers, support and friendship of our church family was a vital link in Kirk’s care, especially towards the end. It takes a village to treat a dementia patient and keep them at home, clean, comfortable and safe.

He will be deeply missed. We rejoice that he is now free and able to guard the gates of heaven for his final duty as a United States Marine.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 in the Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Ave. The Reverend James Turner will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would appreciate flowers only, (no live plants please) or contributions to Gideons International or the Spero Pregnancy Center.
