Georgia W Gilbert

July 11th, 1924 to May 29th, 2023
Obituary

Georgia Wilma Gilbert, 98, of Port Huron, finished her earthly journey and went home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 29, 2023. Her life centered around Jesus and she loved serving at her church. Mom was extremely generous with her time, talents and money.

She was born July 11, 1924, in Hillsdale, Michigan, to the late George and Dolly Potter. She married Buddy A. Gilbert on June 3, 1940. He died January 11, 1974.

Georgia had many life experiences and careers. During World War II, while her husband was serving overseas, she was raising young children and worked as a Rosie the Riveter in Lansing. When the family moved to Port Huron, she worked as a medical records librarian at Mercy Hospital. After the death of her husband, she traveled the state working as a Medical Records Consultant for nursing homes. She then obtained her Nursing Home Administrator License and managed Yale Medical Center. In the early 1980’s, she moved to Toledo to be the afternoon Medical Records Supervisor at Toledo Hospital. She retired from Toledo Hospital in 1985. Her retirement was, however, very short. After moving to Port Sanilac, she began working in a medical practice as an office administrator for Dr. Price. Georgia finished her career working a job she loved as a foster grandparent at Meyer Elementary School, where she helped children read and write. She also served as a demonstrator at Meijer for several years.

She had numerous interests and hobbies. She could play the piano by ear, enjoyed reading and was a talented artist. She was a Room Mother for her children’s classrooms and was a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed ALL things family. She loved her children and grandchildren coming home for Sunday dinners.

Georgia is survived by her six children, Gloria Green, Carol Moulton, Steve (Nancy) Gilbert, Budd (Nancy) Gilbert, Robyn (Michael) Rossow and Terri (Harry) Fleming; 22 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, June Balistrieri and Betty Lyons; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Alice Potter; her son, John Gilbert; grandson, Ron Gilbert; two sons-in-law, Lester Green and Robert Moulton; and a sister, Marion Heotis.

At our mother’s request, we have donated her earthly body to Wayne State University for science. They have said she will be a teaching body.

We would like to give a special thank you to all the workers on Elderberry pod at Marwood Nursing and Rehab, where mom spent the last 17 months of her life. We so appreciate your support for our family and your loving care for our mother.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Griswold Street Baptist Church. Georgia’s grandson, Pastor Harry J. Fleming, will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Transformation, City Chapel Church or Marwood Nursing and Rehab. To send condolences, visit pollockrandall.com
