Daniel J Smith

Daniel Joseph Smith, 63, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

He was born October 22, 1959 in Grosse Pointe to the late Ralph and Lorraine Smith. He married Sandra Jean Wilcox on August 9, 1986 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Huron.

Daniel grew up in Avoca and graduated from Yale High School. He was employed as a mental health technician for many years at Harbor Oaks and Innovative Housing. Dan loved being outdoors - especially fishing, camping, jogging and putting on firework shows. He was a hard worker and a lover of all things chocolate. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Dan is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra; children, Andrew Smith (Anthony Lutz) and Rachel Smith (Christian Wright); siblings, Laurie (Todd) Taylor, Gordon Smith (Susan Strange) and David Smith; brother-in-law, Keith Wenning (Kris Gattler); best friend, Dan Lewandowski; and many aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna (John) Gilbert and Diane Wenning.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 23, 2023 in Faith Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Mark Huff will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the St. Clair County Veterans Affairs Emergency Relief Fund.
