Ruby E Cook

January 21st, 1935 to June 19th, 2023
Obituary

Ruby Evelyn Cook (LaVere), 88, of Port Huron went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, June 19, 2023 after a long and fruitful life serving in His name.

She was born January 21, 1935 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Marshall and Evah (Allen) LaVere, a butcher and homemaker respectively.

Ruby graduated from Port Huron High School in 1953 and through her devotion to the Lord she was led to become a nurse attending Central Bible Institute and Seminary, then Hurley Medical Center to receive her RN. She cared for patients at every stage of their life. Her years spent at Woodland Developmental Center were her most fond memories. Ruby was an active part of her churches throughout her life, including teaching Sunday School at Port Huron Assembly of God and a member of the Women’s Missionary Council. Ruby and Ed were members of Port Huron Assembly of God and later Marysville Assembly of God. She never missed an opportunity to pray for anyone that crossed her path. The Pearly Gates will be open wide waiting for her arrival along with every soul she has guided to the Lord.

Ruby was blessed with a loving family. After a long-distance courtship, and writing countless letters back and forth, she married Edward Cook on February 13, 1960 in Port Huron Assembly of God. They raised two children, Cindy and David, traveling the United States in an RV, as a family, every chance they had. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She spent her retired years with them, teaching them to serve God while handing down generations of knowledge and skills.

Ruby is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ed; daughter, Cynthia (Nick) Schnepp; son, David (Katy) Cook; grandchildren, Kelley (Jon) Coe, Kaitlyn Schnepp (Tavis McCary) and Tyler Cook (Jen Murray); great-grandson, Ivan Homminga; brother, Kenneth (Ruth) LaVere; brother-in-law, Richard Glombowski; and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Evah LaVere; and sisters, Charlene (Bill) Main, Betty (Graham) Baker and Lillian Glombowski.

The family would like to thank McLaren Port Huron Palliative Care and Hospice for caring for Ruby in her final days. Also, for every prayer sent and call or message made by those blessed to know Ruby over the years.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 22, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Johnnie Johnson and the Reverend Phil Seppo will officiate. A livestream of the service can be viewed on Ruby’s obituary page of the funeral home website.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be David Cook, Tyler Cook, Nick Schnepp, Kaitlyn Schnepp, Tavis McCary and Kelley Coe.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International. To send condolences, visit pollockrandall.com.

We will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Revelation 21:4
