Joan "Sue" Atkinson

March 6th, 1938 to July 2nd, 2023

Joan “Sue” Atkinson, 85, of Port Huron Township, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

She was born March 6, 1938 in Port Huron to the late John and June Pickelhaupt. She married William R. “Bill” Atkinson on July 23, 1955 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2017.

Sue graduated from Port Huron High School and was proud of her long career as secretary at Faith Lutheran Church. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and remained a lifelong parishioner. She was a Monday offering counter, member of the altar and Mary/Martha guilds, and enjoyed going to Bible study. She loved playing cards, reading, going to craft shows, shopping, and listening to music of all kinds. She had lovely penmanship and kept beautiful journals.

She is survived by seven children, William “Bill” (Mary) Atkinson, Susan Atkinson, Cathy Brigance, Cheryl (Geoffrey) Hering, Robert (Kay) Atkinson, Tom Atkinson (Jim Renberg), and Janice (Adam) King; 15 grandchildren, Scott (Danielle) Atkinson, Kim (Clay) Ledford, Tyler Atkinson (Arielle Veenstra), Michael Siebert, Carl Pullen Jr., Sandy (Glen) Cummings, Megan Brigance, Cody Pullen, David (Melanie) Hering, Tiffany (Andy) Roersma, Autumn (Jesse) Dunsmore, Faith Atkinson, Gregory King, Joshua King, and Benjamin King; 10 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers, John (Peggy) and Mark (Cathy) Pickelhaupt; sister, Judy (Rick) Tomrell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Betty (Ray) Landschoot, Edie (Richard “Dick”) Hamilton, and Emil Pickelhaupt.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023 in Trinity Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Mark Madson will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Sue’s grandsons.
