Donald R Therrien
Donald R. Therrien, 89, of Savage, Minnesota, formerly of Port Huron, died Sunday, July 30, 2023.
He was born March 25, 1934 in Port Huron to the late Winfield and Naomi Therrien. Don attended St. Joseph's Catholic church and school and was a devout member until he met his true love, JoAnn. Don took the steps to convert to Lutheranism and married JoAnn Hilliker on July 13, 1957 in Port Huron. They were life-long members of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Don began his working career as a teenager at a radio and TV repair business. He eventually secured a job as a machinist with Mueller Brass Company where he retired from after 40 years of service. In the 1950's and 60's, Don was actively involved in the Port Huron Jaycees and the Soap Box Derby Association. He had a love of cars and airplanes and even acquired his pilot's license in his early 20's allowing him to become a member of the United States Civil Air Patrol, Michigan Wing. In the 1950’s he was a member of the Road Knights Car Club in which he drove his '55 Chevy and would challenge people and even a local police officer to a drag race and usually won.
Don enjoyed building models, bowling, and assembling anything with instructions. He read every car manual from cover to cover for every car he owned. He kept immaculate records of everything he owned. Don was the ever-so easy-going person and was a friend to so many.
He is survived by two children, Stephen Therrien (Trish Ohlert) of Orange Park, FL and Kelli (Jim) Amero of Savage, MN; and a granddaughter, Mallory (Grant) Moore of Port Huron, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn; his parents; two brothers; and many dear aunts and uncles.
