Helen L. Peace
Helen L. Peace, 86, of Yale, Michigan died peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
She was born August 19, 1936 in Burnwell, Kentucky to the late John and Daisy Quick. She came from a Christian family and as a young child got baptized in the Becky Turn Hole River. She came to Detroit and met her husband Edwin Paul “Corky” Peace one Sunday at the Fairview Baptist Church. They were married on November 3, 1956, had four children and lived happily married for 40 years.
Helen was a member of Trinity Nazarene, Trinity Missionary Church of Yale and Hillside Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed singing every Sunday in the choir. Her summer time passion for 17 years was selling her fruits and vegetables at her road-side stand. Many knew her and would stop to see her every summer. She was very active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended all sports and was their biggest cheerleader. Helen enjoyed volunteering at the Yale Resale shop that supported the local churches. She looked forward every Christmas to ringing the Salvation Army bell with her family. She was a southern cook that made everything by pressure cooker and scratch which meant we all looked forward to Sunday dinners. Homemade Beef and Noodle, Chicken and Dumplings, Rice Krispy treats and Lemon Squares were the BEST!!! Helen was dedicated to her family and was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother.
After her husband Edwin died on October 31, 1999 she continued and maintained her home for over 20 years in Yale. In the beginning she had to learn how to cut 5 acres so she was excited to use her new riding lawn mower but forgot to put the mower blade down. We all laughed about that for years.
She is survived by her children, Kathy (Matt) Machowski of Fort Gratiot, Beverly (Dale) Repke of Macomb, Mark (Kim) Peace of Chesterfield, grandchildren; Amanda (Jason) Rose, Joshua (Whitney) Peace, Jesse (Shelby) Peace and Brian Repke; great-grandchildren, Emaleigh Machowski, Wyatt Machowski, Peyton Machowski, Taylor and Olivia Poelker, Carter Peace, Benjamin Rose and Axel Peace; siblings, Betty Kirk, Wilma Mallory; sister-in-law, Irene Quick; and several nieces and nephews that she loved and adored.
She was preceded in death by her son, Edwin Paul “Corky” Peace (surviving wife Donna Peace); grandson, Matthew Paul Machowski (surviving wife Wendy Machowski); siblings, Bernice (Ted) Karickhoff, Eugene (Dorothy) Quick, Tom Dick Quick; her twin sister, Mabel Quick; and brothers-in-law, Clyde Kirk and Hugh Mallory.
Helen was very giving, loving, and was well respected by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be in Kentucky at a later date.
