Michelle L "Chef Shell" Wrubel

October 18th, 1961 to August 16th, 2023

Michelle Lucille Wrubel, the beloved “Chef Shell,” 61, of Marysville, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born October 18, 1961 in Flint to Gilbert W. and the late Mary Lee DuBois. Michelle graduated from Imlay City High School and earned an Associate’s Degree from SC4. She met the love of her life, Mark Wrubel at Rachel’s Restaurant in St. Clair and they were married June 18, 1988 in Port Huron.

Michelle was always passionate about food. In 1998, on their 10th anniversary, the Wrubels realized their dream of starting a business, as Mark presented Shell with 10 dozen roses and the gift of a sauce company. Evolving from a specialty sauce company to a full-service restaurant, Chef Shell’s Restaurant & Catering is now known for the “best darn donuts,” fresh foods and excellent customer service. It has become a well-loved pillar of Downtown Port Huron.

Shell was a woman of faith and a prayer warrior. She was known for her dedication and work ethic, her servant leadership, and her listening ear and support which was appreciated by her team and guests. She and Mark gave selflessly to many community organizations, instituting 10% Tuesdays, where 10% of sales were donated to local charities.

When she wasn’t working, Michelle enjoyed gardening, journaling, taking hikes with Mark with their walking sticks, traveling and going on adventures, and most importantly, being with her friends and family. She was a member of Moose Lodge #158 and will be remembered for her huge heart, loving nature, and patience.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 35 years and best friend, Mark; father and stepmother, Gilbert and Maxine DuBois; three sisters, Lindy (Ed) Williams, Jennifer (Andy) Zalinski and Vicky (Stacy) Loszewski; two aunts, Barb (Garry) Cryderman and Dee DuBois; sister-in-law, Kathy Wrubel; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many dear friends and customers who became friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lee DuBois.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2023 and from 2-4 & 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in Living Water Fellowship (4731 Lapeer Road, Kimball Township) with the Reverend Randall Gearhardt officiating.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Brian Wrubel, Barry Wrubel, Paul Campau, Tom Campau, Randy Schaffer and Chris Armstrong.

Shell and Mark were generous supporters of many local organizations, including SONS, Spero Pregnancy Center, Habitat for Humanity, Harbor Impact, Heifer International, Gideons International, and many others. The family suggests memorials be made to one of these wonderful causes or any local charity of your choice.
