Harold J Schmelter

Harold John Schmelter Jr., 75, of Port Huron, died Thursday, February 16, 2012.
Harold was born June 23, 1936 in Wyandotte to the late Thelma and Harold Schmelter Sr. Harold married Caroline Yuskie in Detroit. Harold was a lifetime serviceman in many divisions of the U.S. Armed Forces including the Green Berets and Coast Guard. He fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Later, he worked for the City of Port Huron at Lakeside Cemetery. Harold was a very faithful Christian, a Master Gardener, and enjoyed working in his wood shop.
He is survived by five children, John Deal, Jesse (Kathy) Deal, Debbie (Adam) Tuzdin, Carol Lopiccolo, and Patricia Schmelter; daughter-in-law, Mary Deal; honorary son, Donald Yuskie; grandchildren, Jesse Deal, Jessica Deal, Jesse Schmelter, Steven (Kelly) Schmelter, Donald Schmelter, John Deal, Elgin (Stacey) Mahosky, Angela (Andrew) VanConant, Alicia Mahosky and Emily Deal; many great grandchildren; four brothers, Gary, Bobby, Eddie and Donald; and a sister, Laura Hill. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Caroline; son, Joseph Deal; and eight brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in Lakeside Cemetery Chapel with visitation beginning at 12:30. Deacon Bobie Jones Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Allied Veterans Columbarium. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
