Angelo Barbetta, 82, of Port Huron, MI, passed away on September 19, 2023.
He was born on September 4, 1941, in Welch, WV, to the late Lucy and Anthony Barbetta. Angelo was a loving husband to Katherine Barbetta, his wife of almost 60 years, a caring father, proud Grandpa, and loyal friend to many. He was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand. Angelo had a great sense of humor and loved playing pranks to make others laugh. He cherished his memories of his time in the army and as a coach, considering them some of the greatest moments of his life.
Angelo had a rich and fulfilling life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Light Weapons Infantryman, 2d Airborne Battle Group, 187th Infantry, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He earned the esteemed parachutist badge and was honorably discharged in 1960.
After his military service, Angelo owned two gas stations and enjoyed racing cars. He then dedicated over 20 years of his career to Detroit Edison, working hard to provide for his family until his retirement.
Angelo was a member of Holy Innocents Church in Roseville, MI, where he formed lifelong friendships. He cherished his time spent with friends from the church and community.
In his free time, Angelo had a variety of hobbies. He had a passion for collecting baseball cards, magazines, and books, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. He also enjoyed collecting coins, tinkering with model trains, bowling, playing cards, and going to the casino. Angelo had a love for sports and dedicated many years to coaching CYO softball. He not only was a coach, but also a role model and father figure to many of his players.
Angelo will be deeply missed by his wife, Katherine Barbetta; his daughters, Theresa Rice, Christine Tolomei, and Kelly Sturdivent; his sons-in-law, Robert Rice, Gregory Tolomei, and Shawn Sturdivent; his grandchildren, Dina Tolomei, Nicole Broughton, Corey Tolomei, Derick Johnson, Zachary Sturdivent; and his extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo Barbetta; and nephews, Tony and Jim Barbetta.
Visitation to honor Angelo's life will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Sunday, October 1st, at Pollock-Randall Funeral Home located at 912 Lapeer Ave in Port Huron, MI. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the same location. After the service, a dinner will be held at The Lakes Clubhouse, 5901 Lapeer Rd. in Smiths Creek, MI.
