Sandra L. “Sandy” Wirtz, of LeCanto, Florida, formerly of Port Huron, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 25, 1943 in Port Huron to the late Delores and C. Fred Sassanella. Sandy married Jim Wirtz on January 19, 1964, and they were married for 59 years.
Sandy worked as a telephone operator at Michigan Bell telephone, then later on with the FBI and U.S. Census Bureau. Earlier in life, she enjoyed snowmobiling and bowling, where she was the first woman in the Port Huron Area to bowl a 299 game. Sandy played golf for most of her life, dealt in antiques and excelled at playing bridge, where she became a Gold Life Master. Sandy also loved traveling with Jim and her many friends, and she especially loved to visit their grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Wirtz; daughter, Connie Wirtz; sons, Jim (Michelle) Wirtz and Sean (Tammy) Wirtz; five grandchildren including, Olivia Wirtz, Savannah Wirtz and James Wirtz; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue (Tim) Wirtz-Turner.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Shadrack Owuor will officiate. Friends may view the service livestream by visiting Sandy's obituary page of the funeral home website.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
