Robert H "Bob" Koppel Sr

Robert Harold “Bob” Koppel Sr., 84, of Fort Gratiot, died Monday, November 13, 2023.

He was born February 19, 1939 in Buel, Michigan, the 13th and youngest child of the late Amelia and David J. Koppel Sr. He married Judith A. Ainsworth on June 3, 1961 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Port Huron. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1992 after 31 years of marriage.

Bob attended Port Huron Junior College and was a carpentry apprentice before founding Bob Koppel General Contracting which he operated for over 60 years. He was a hardworking family man who was greatly respected in the community. Bob enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas in his younger years, and later in life to Florida with his longtime companion, Karen.

He is survived by two sons, Robert H. (Donna) Koppel Jr. and Jeffrey D. (Denise) Koppel; four grandchildren, Marisa, Erik, Emilyann and Steven Koppel; longtime companion, Karen Muzzy; and sister-in-law, Beverly Koppel. He was preceded in death by 12 siblings, David Koppel Jr., Karl Koppel, Alma Louise Doan, Alexander John Koppel Sr., Henry Koppel, Dorothy Williamson, Charles “Chuck” Koppel, John Koppel, Theresa Moran, Herman “Lee” Koppel, Edith Osiecki and Eleanor Koppel.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Branden Hunt of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Nick Cavis, Joe McBrien, Steve Sullivan, Dave Smith and Paul Koppel. Honorary pallbearers will be Erik Koppel and Steven Koppel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society, Old Newsboys of Port Huron, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
