Samuel Ernest Byrd, 79, of Kenockee Township, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

He was born March 3, 1944 in Detroit to the late Udina Marie Eaton.

Samuel was employed at American Tape for 25 years and then was employed at DTE until his retirement. He also owned and operated Blue Water Small Engine Repair for many years. He was very mechanically inclined and was the smartest man his family knew. His knowledge encompassed everything from politics to trees. He adored his wife and enjoyed spending time with family and friends around the bonfire.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis, who he affectionately called “Babe”; and was dearly loved by five children, Jeff (Benita) Davis, Jody (Carl) Davis-Coon, Shannon (Tinalissa) Byrd; Shane (Andrea) Byrd and the late Ron Davis. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Julie Davis; fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Byrd; and four siblings, Floyd Dean, Dwight Dean, Eugene Dean and Lila Ray.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 5:00 p.m. The Reverend Dr. G. Patrick Thompson will officiate.

A meal will follow at Blue Water Aerie #3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2645 Howard St., Port Huron.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township.
