John A Atkinson

John A. Atkinson, 77, of Port Huron, died Thursday, December 21, 2023.

He was born June 3, 1946 in Port Huron to the late John and Ethel Atkinson.

John graduated from Yale High School. He then served proudly in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. He was employed at Coca-Cola for 35 years. He was a life member of V.F.W. May O’Brien Post #8465. He loved fishing, gardening and watching hockey, especially his beloved Detroit Red Wings.

He is survived by eight children, Michelle (Victor) Reyes and Eugene (Teresa) Atkinson, Ardelle Kingsbury (Larry MacDonald), Cheryl Hilgendorf, David “Joe” Kingsbury, Raymond (Claudine) Stone, Judi Stone (Rick Woolman) and Gene (Leslie) Stone; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Murray, Barbara (Lester) Brennan and Joyce Atkinson; three brothers, Roger, Dale and Don Atkinson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 30 years, Ruth A. Atkinson; and three siblings, Gary, Dee and Carol.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Shaun Laurain will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Dylan Reyes, Brendan Atkins, Corey Woolman, Kaytlyn Atkinson, Keaton Woolman, Claudia Woolman and Claire Woolman. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
