Betty J. Prevost, 76, of Port Huron died on Saturday, January 6, 2024 surrounded by her family.
She was born June 6, 1947 in Port Huron to the late Kenneth and Margaret Howard and married John S. Prevost on June 16, 1972 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Huron.
Betty has been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church since her early childhood. She graduated from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1965 as a member of the first graduating class. She attended St. Clair County Community College and graduated from Michigan State University in 1969 with a degree in Elementary Education with an MA +30 hours (GO GREEN!). Betty dedicated 29 years to teaching at Lakeport Elementary and Fort Gratiot Middle School in the Port Huron Area School District. She was a member of the Port Huron Education Association and a life member of the National Education Association. Betty was a leader in the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, helping families in need. She was also a member of the Eagles, the League of Catholic Women, and was active in the St. Clair County Democratic Party.
Betty and John loved to travel, and had visited 48 states in the US and many places throughout Canada. One of her favorite forms of travel was trips with River Barge Excursions on the Mississippi, Tennessee and Ohio Rivers. She also enjoyed camping and spending time at the family cottage in Lexington. Betty also loved spending time under the Blue Water Bridges admiring and taking pictures of the passing freighters and ships. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John; three children, Christianna (Jamie) Burleigh, John (Becky) Prevost and Nicholas (Jenny) Prevost; grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Joseph, Elizabeth, Madalynne, Jaxson, John, Brendan, Everleigh, Shane, and another grandchild due in May 2024; brother, Tom (Sue) Howard; sister-in-law, Donna Prevost; nieces and nephews, LeAnne, Rob, Laura, Katie, Courtney, and Jacobi; and cherished friends, Joanne Tapin and Chris Norton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret; brothers-in-law, Edgar and David; and grandson, Baby Declan.
Visitation will be 1-4 & 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Family and friends are encouraged to join the family at 7:00 p.m. for a time of sharing their favorite memories and stories of Betty.
Mrs. Prevost will lie in state from 10:30 until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Port Huron. Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.
The Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be John Prevost, Nicholas Prevost, Damon Amey, Jacob Prevost, Joshua Burleigh and Joseph Burleigh.
Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Food Depot or Blue Water Hospice Home.
