May 3rd, 1945 to January 9th, 2024
Obituary

Kay Lorraine Wright, 78, of Port Huron, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones at McLaren Port Huron Hospital on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

She was born on May 3, 1945 in Port Huron, to Alberta Brown and William H. Miller Sr., the second eldest of eight siblings.

Kay lived in Detroit for many years and worked for AT&T. She retired and moved back to Port Huron in 2003 and was employed with DTE through Allied Security, retiring in 2023.

Kay gave her life to the Lord at an early age. For many years she was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit where she was lead soprano soloist in the choir. She went throughout the city using her singing abilities at weddings and various events. She was also a member of a gospel group called “Freedom Gospel Singers”. On any given Sunday she inspired the congregation with her melodious soprano voice as she sung her favorite song, “Touch Me Lord Jesus”.

After relocating to Port Huron, she became a faithful member of Restoration Christian Community Church, under the leadership of her brother, Dr. Carl E. Miller Sr. Kay was an intercessor and lead greeter and you could always hear her beautiful soprano voice ringing out in the sanctuary, inspiring all around her. Kay loved her family and had some funny sayings when she was trying to get her point across, she would say “I took and told you”. When she was inspired she would say, “Well now, well now”.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Tamiko (Leslie) Grant Rucker; grandchildren, Anjela Smith, Deja Reese, Stephanie Grant, Demetria Cosby and Kwynton Cooks; two great grandchildren, Demi Grant and Aubrey Smith; goddaughter, Julie McCoy; siblings, Diana Brabson, William H. (Yvonne) Miller Jr., Dr. Carl (Deborah) Miller Sr., Debra (Thomas) McNair, Karen Jones and Kimberly Miller-West ; a special cousin, Sharon Brown; special friends, Mary Butler and Jeremy Vossen; and a host of friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Betty Moore, Denise Moore and Edna Howell.

Kay’s presence and love will forever be present with all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 19, 2024 in Restoration Christian Community Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Kay’s brother, Dr. Carl E. Miller Sr. will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
