Joanne M McCue

April 15th, 1936 to January 27th, 2024
Joanne Marie McCue, 87, of Wales Township, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2024 after a 7-month decline from heart disease. She passed peacefully with her six children and sister at her bedside. She was born April 15, 1936 in Port Huron to the late Harvey and Dorothy (Strickler) Smith. Joanne loved her family and wanted each one to come to know the Lord. She shared that her walk with the Lord was because of the example of her Grandfather Strickler’s quiet, unwavering faith. She loved to write encouraging, informative letters and cards to family, friends and acquaintances over the years. Joanne enjoyed simple things like walking, berry-picking, baking bread, caring for her chickens, going to family camp, and worshipping with her church family. Joanne spent over thirty years working with the elderly, first at the St. Clair County Medical Center, and later at Bortz Nursing Home in West Branch. She is survived by her children, Dottie (John) Barnes, Vicky McCue, Sherie (Terry) Fahey, Pam Lashbrook, Rod (Karyn) McCue and Danny (Rachel) McCue; 29 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren and 29 great-great grandchildren; sister, Susan (Dan) Rich; brother-in-law, Larry Hartel, sister-in-law, Elizabeth McCue; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Harvey McCue; daughter, Lisa Steelman; son-in-law, Kolin Lashbrook; granddaughter, Andrea Barnes; great grandchildren, Briar Freeman and Dylan Steelman; sister, Doris Hartel; and three husbands, Dave McCue, Hugh Jackson and Lee Papple. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 in Columbus Baptist Church, 1258 Palms Rd., Columbus Twp., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Chris Freeman, her grandson-in-law will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Wales Township at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spero Center and Child Evangelism Fellowship-Blue Water Chapter.
