Gary L Thomes

Gary Leroy Thomes Sr., 84, of Port Huron, died Friday, February 2, 2024.

He was born May 15, 1939 in Mount Clemens to the late Richard “Dick” and Grace Thomes. He married Jeanette S. Hoadley at high noon on December 17, 1960 in Fair Haven. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2006 after 45 years of marriage.

Gary served proudly in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed spending time with family and traveling.

He is survived by daughter, Penny (Paul) Stern and son, Gary (Tracie) Thomes Jr.; six grandchildren, Lowell and Franklin Stark, Alysia (Tyler) Hughes and Alex (fiancée Katelyn Walter) Thomes, Aerialle VanVianen and Juliette Gilbert; five great grandchildren, Taylor Trombley, Trinity Stark, Jaylene Stark, Dominic Beblowski and Clayton VanVianen.

Gary is preceded in death by daughter Elizabeth VanVianen.

Private family services were held in Allied Veterans Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
