Donald C "Smiley" Mitchell

Donald Clyde “Smiley” Mitchell, 57, of Lenox Township, died Monday, February 5, 2024.

Don was born February 18, 1966 in Ogemaw County to JoAnn and the late Robert Mitchell. He came to be known as “Smiley” during his school years and it stuck through adulthood. The nickname suited him perfectly as he had a wonderful smile. Smiley worked in construction, the Kentucky coal mines, and most recently as a heavy equipment operator for Waste Management. He loved being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and cutting the grass.

He is survived by three daughters, Janelle Mitchell (Samuel DeWalls), Danielle (Cally) Hamm and Samantha Terrill; a granddaughter, Ella; his mother, JoAnn (Earl) Sass; siblings, Chris (Jody) Sass, Earl W. (Tami) Sass, Theresa (Craig) Grappin and Holly Sass; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Knapp Mitchell; an infant grandson; and his brother, Bobby Mitchell.

A memorial visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 in the Marysville Funeral Home.
