Phyllis A Nitzel Nicholas

May 18th, 1943 to February 19th, 2024

Phyllis Ann Nicholas, 80, of Marysville, died Monday, February 19, 2024.

She was born May 18, 1943 in Detroit to the late Raymond and Velva Slayton and graduated from John J. Pershing High School. Phyllis began her career as a RN at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital and then worked for Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron for several years. She joined the U.S. Army Reserves and completed further education, becoming a Nurse Anesthetist. After proudly serving her country and exiting the service with the rank of Captain, Phyllis completed her career at PHH and finally the Mercy Outpatient Clinic in Fort Gratiot. She loved the beach, water and boats. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she relished time spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert; two sons, Mark and Todd Nitzel (Dawn Houle); step-children, Cindy Nicholas, Rob (Cheri) Nicholas, Teri Smith, Diane (Doug) Hill and David Nicholas; grandchildren, Jacalyn Nitzel (Brian Trombley), Todd “TJ” Nitzel Jr. (Katie Bashore), Lydia and Gabby Nicholas, Neil (Alena) Brusch and Amanda Brusch; great grandsons, Zane Trombley, Broudy and Nolan Brusch; step-sister, Sheila Payne; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Lynn Nitzel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in the Marysville Funeral Home followed by Military Honors at 3:00 p.m. conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be in the Riverlawn Cemetery Columbarium, Marysville.

Memorials may be made to the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
