Obituary
Rose Ann Decker, 88, of Fort Gratiot, died Saturday, February 24, 2024. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 30, 1935 in Marine City to the late Lavern and Lillian Elsholz. Rose Ann graduated from Port Huron High School in 1953. She married Martin A. Decker on March 27, 1954 at Washington Avenue United Methodist Church in Port Huron. She passed one month before their 70th wedding anniversary. They resided in Marysville for over 60 years prior to relocating to an assisted living facility several years ago. Rose Ann worked as the very first teacher’s aide with Marysville Public Schools, working for over 20 years at the Gardens and Washington elementary schools. She was very dedicated to the staff and students and loved her job. She was loved by many in the community, known as the lady who knew everyone, and recognized as “Employee of the Year” by the school district. She was a member of Marysville United Methodist Church. Rose Ann loved to collect dolls and travelled a lot with Martin in their RV after retirement. She was an avid ice hockey fan and longtime Port Huron Flags season ticket holder. She also enjoyed watching her son play ice hockey from a very early age and through college. She and Marty enjoyed housing young players at their home during the Silver Stick Hockey tournaments in Port Huron. They were very active supporters of the Marysville High School Band and other local organizations, including volunteering at Port Huron Hospital as a Gray Lady. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Marty; son, Mark (Lisa) Decker; two grandchildren, Scott Decker and Leann (Allen) Brooks; her first great granddaughter on the way, Adelade; two siblings, L. “Edward” (Gloria) Elsholz and Connie (Robert) Kent; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Elsholz. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024 in the Marysville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Curtis Clarke will officiate. A livestream of the service will be available on Rose Ann’s obituary page on the funeral home website. Burial will be at Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville.
