Robert J "Bob" Dickinson
Robert James “Bob” Dickinson, 70, of Fort Gratiot, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 after a tremendous battle with liver disease.
He was born August 20, 1953 in Port Huron to the late Donald and Betty Dickinson. He married Laura Lee Byers on February 5, 2005 in Hillside Wesleyan Church.
Bob was employed with Art Van Furniture for many years prior to his retirement. He was an avid sports watcher, a die-hard Detroit Lions fan (pleasantly surprised that they made it to the 2024 playoffs), a golfer and a bowler. He especially loved watching his grandchildren and family friends participate in sporting events.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, his Hillside Wesleyan Church family, where he was a devoted worshiper and member and his former work family at Art Van Furniture, where he was lovingly known as the Godfather of Sleep.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Laura; his children, Annette (John) Switzer, Amie (Graham) Sumpter, Joanie (Michael) Recker and Jessica Nixon; grandchildren, Dustin (Karlee) Crawford, Russell Crawford (Josilyn Gomez), Julia (Zach) Davidson, Jackie Wahl, Rory, Colin and Sean Switzer, Grayson Sumpter and Ainsley Recker; great grandchildren, Noah and Huxley; his sister, Debra (Dale) Reynolds; many nieces and nephews; and multiple extended family members and step-children.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 in Hillside Wesleyan Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Nate Neihof will officiate.
Those wishing to make a contribution to his life’s passions can donate to Hillside Wesleyan Church or Blue Water Recovery and Outreach Center (BWROC).
