Ronald G Masar

December 19th, 1940 to March 5th, 2024

Ronald Gene Masar, 83, Marysville, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, after many years of health challenges.

He was born December 19, 1940 to the late Louis and Gertrude Masar (Thrushman).

He graduated from Marysville High School in 1959 and competed on the football team. After high school he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Washington, D.C. from October 6, 1959 to October 4, 1963. While enlisted he started his mastery of computer programing skills. He then attended St. Clair County Community College and graduated from Central Michigan University.

He started his working life for Wrigley Grocery then worked at Prestolite Wire, Chrysler Marine, General Dynamics Land Systems and finished his career working for Detroit Edison headquarters.

Ron loved to travel all over the United States, either for his work or to visit friends and family. He even went to Kuwait while working for General Dynamics and was very proud to be a part of the Egyptian M1A1 coproduction program.

He is survived by his son, Jeff “Jeffery” Masar; daughter, Linda Roberts, both of North Carolina; grandchildren, Stephany Yow, Jeffrey Masar, Christopher (Emma) Masar and Lauren Masar; a great grandchild, Corey Yow; the mother of his children, Joanne Dumas; sister, Beverly Vansach; niece, Pam Hendrick; nephew, Gary (Darla) Vansach, Jr.; great nieces, Tifanie and Lena Vansach; great nephew, Jerry (Sam) Hendrick; aunt, Melanie Warsinski; his Tuesday buddy, Mark Green; special friends, Charlotte Slota, Diane Gregersen and her granddaughter, Mackenzie Flynn; and his "spoiled dog", and loyal companion, "Benny".

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis Masar, Jr.; brother-in-law, Gary Vansach Sr.; nephew, Jacob Hendrick; and many aunts and uncles.

Ron was good natured, fun-loving, enjoyed family get togethers, sailing, and “tolerated” the many games of “Sorry”. He was a kind, generous soul who will be greatly missed by all.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the best sister, family caregiver, and rock for the greater Masar family, Beverly Vansach.

Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the Marysville Funeral Home.
