Helen Laboda

Helen Alice Laboda, 88, of Clay Township, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

She was born October 1, 1935 in Detroit to the late Theodore and Clara Misiak. She married Stephen D. Laboda on May 5, 1956 in St. Cunegunda Catholic Church, Detroit. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2015 after 59 wonderful years of marriage.

She is survived by five children, Linda (James) Cumming, Bob (Tomoko) Laboda, Tom (Jennifer) Laboda, Ron (Michiko) Laboda and Steve (Jacki) Laboda; seven grandchildren, Anna and Amelia Cumming and Alex, Christopher, Elissa, Kenneth and Steven Laboda; and two great grandchildren, Brooke and Christian.

Helen loved being a wife, mother and an exceptional Nana. She and Steve were avid golfers and spent many years enjoying their time in Florida and their lake home. She bravely battled Alzheimer’s and found peace living next to her daughter’s family in a small cottage on the St. Clair River. She spent her last three years blanketed by the love of her care team, Linda, Breana, Vicky and Kristen.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 in Our Lady on the River Catholic Church, Marine City with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Father Louis Papeyre will officiate.

Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
