Donald J Atkinson

December 2nd, 1956 to April 26th, 2024

Donald James Atkinson, 67, of Kenockee Township, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024.

He was born December 2, 1956 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late John and Ethel Atkinson.

Donald, or “Porky” as many liked to call him, grew up in Ruby, Michigan and later graduated from Yale High School in 1975. He was on the wrestling team, played football and was proud of belonging to the choir. Don became proficient in auto body repair and had a lifelong passion for working on cars. He was also a truck driver for many years until his Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis. Don enjoyed singing, listening to music, joking around with his family and friends, and playing with his dogs. He was a member of the Ruby Lions Club. More than anything, he loved spending time with his daughter and step-grandchildren. Don had a tender heart and his laughter will be missed by many family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Mylissa Atkinson (Victoria Sturgill); step-children, Trisha (Patrick) Cross and Stella Hill (Matthew Stewart); four step-grandchildren, Kaylee, Pavel-Jack, Phoenix and Promose; his sisters, Shirley Murray, Barbara (Lester) Brennan and Joyce Atkinson; brothers, Roger Atkinson and Dale Atkinson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Elmer, John, Gary, Donna and Carol.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Gratiot. An open-house visitation and meal will follow from 1-5 p.m. at the Ruby Lions Hall, 4535 Brott Road, Clyde, MI.

Memorial contributions may be made to his daughter, Mylissa, for his step-grandchildren.
