Evan Edwards
Evan Dunsmore Edwards, 79, of Ruby, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
He was born October 19, 1932 in Emmett Township to the late Evan and Helen Edwards and was a lifetime area resident. He married Evelyn J. Campbell on December 3, 1955 in St. Martin Lutheran Church.
Mr. Edwards retired from CSX Railroad after 17 years. He had previously worked at Mueller Brass and Prestolite. Evan served in the U.S. Army on the front lines and as a medic in Korea. He was a longtime member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and volunteer with Mid-City Nutrition. He was also a member of the Wales Historical Society and the V.F.W. May-O’Brien Post #8465, and a former member of the Ruby Lions Club. Evan loved spending time with his family telling stories and passing on family traditions, hosting “porch parties”, gardening and hunting. He was known for his heart of gold and ability to fix anything.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; children, Debra (Mike) McGriff, Kirk (Vicki) Edwards and Jo Ellen “Josie” Edwards; grandchildren, Kevin (Brittany) Edwards, Charles McGriff, Chelsie McGriff and Justin Edwards; a brother, Walter (Loretta) Edwards; and many nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Saunders; and a brother, Howard Edwards.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012 in St. Martin Lutheran Church. Pastor Bill Austin of St. Martin Lutheran Church and Rev. Donald Doerzbacher of Our Saviour Lutheran Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Charles McGriff, Kevin Edwards, Justin Edwards, Michael McGriff, James Boughner and William Lucas.
