Herbert W Tanton Sr.

Herbert Wesley Tanton Sr., 79, of Port Huron Township, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

He was born November 9, 1944 in Deckerville to the late Henry and Helen Tanton. Herb graduated from Marysville High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. He married Barbara Kay Glombowski and they were married until her death on February 15, 2022.

Herb enjoyed many things, including socializing with people. For the past few years he frequently went to McDonald's for breakfast with his friends and he loved starting conversations with any of the people he met during daily errands.

He was known for being a nice guy with one of the best smiles and laughs. He was loved by all who knew him.

Herb is survived by three children, Herb Tanton Jr., Larry (Joanne) Tanton and Susan Tanton; and three grandchildren, Mia Tanton, Sara Tanton and Ean Card.

A memorial open house to honor Herb’s life will be held from 12-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in the Smiths Creek American Legion, 7150 Smiths Creek Road, Smiths Creek. Military honors will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
