Obituary

John Joseph Foster, 76, of Burtchville Township, died Monday, May 20, 2024.

He was born April 5, 1948 in Kenockee Township to the late John “Jack” and Mary J. Foster. He married Mary Ann Kilbourn on September 21, 1973 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church.

John attended Port Huron Northern High School and then proudly served in the U.S. Army and in the Merchant Marine. A hard-working man and self-proclaimed “workaholic,” he enjoyed his 45-year career as a millwright at the Ford Motor Romeo Engine Plant. John retired on April 1, 2023, 4 days shy of his 75th birthday. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on classic cars and attending car shows and was a fan of river rafting in West Virginia. John was a charming man with an easy-going personality and witty sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary; son, Alan J. Foster; granddaughter, Athena, and Athena’s mother, Karrie Foster; sisters, Judy Spadafore and Marcia Fairman; sisters-in-law, Gayle and Jane “Cathy” Kilbourn; brother-in-law, Chuck Kilbourn; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Arnold Gerry; siblings, Janice Falk, Nancy and Irving Gerry; sister-in-law, Grace (Fred) Sherbutte; and brothers-in-law, Dan and Bill Kilbourn.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 in the Marysville Funeral Home. Dr. Joseph Baunoch will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
